Regarding your forum posting, I think you are looking for someone who does plate mail as opposed to chain mail.

They did something similar on "So you think you can dance Canada" a few weeks ago, only the costumer simply hot glued the plate sections on a felt base garment, it looked very much like armour in the end, you wouldn't expect it to just be glued on hunks of metal.
Good luck, check with your local Society for Creative Anachronism, they might be able to help you find someone to make such a outfit.
