ABOUT THE ARTIST

Living and working in New York City,  Renzo Spirit Buffalo, is a former member of the International Cinematographers Guild Local 600  for more than ten years and has worked in major  TV and movie productions including Adrian Lyne's "Unfaithful".  He has also been a member of the Screen Actors Guild  since 1998.  He is the Director of Photography of independent features entitled "Cutter" (Winner 2001 Best Picture in Long Form, Iowa Motion Picture Association) and "Special Breakfast Eggroll: 99¢" (Official Selection 2003 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival, Best Comedy Feature 2003 DIY Film Festival, Honorable Mention 2003 Columbus Film Festival) as well as other short films.  Throughout this period, he has continued to pursue his first passion of photography by capturing images of personalities in the fields of art, music and fashion. Spirit Buffalo's photography debut came in the Spring of 1999 with his solo exhibit entitled: "Picture this:  A Caramel Universe With Squirming Hot Women Surrounded By Wet Feverish Growling Men," in SoHo, NYC in honor of his Grandmother Celane Not Help Him.  In the fall of the same year, Sephora & Vanity Fair teamed up for a group photography exhibit for Sephora’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue, NY, entitled: "Beauty from Within," which included Spirit Buffalo’s work alongside the works of Mary Ellen Mark, Herb Ritts, Francesco Scavullo and other notable photographers.  In the spring of 2000, Spirit Buffalo exhibited and curated seven other emerging artists in a photography and art exhibition for a Tribute to the Meat Packing District of NYC and a benefit for the American-Italian Cancer Foundation entitled:  "eat your meat" which was housed in an empty live meat locker.  He is  currently developing film scripts and is engaged in the production of movie ventures.  Among those is an arthouse/documentary film about downtown independent musicians, one of whom is the 2003 Grammy award winner songwriter for Norah Jones.  In the Summer of 2003, Spirit Buffalo was awarded a grant by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) for his project entitled "ReZervations, USA", a multi-media installation about Indian Reservations.  Spirit Buffalo's photography was also featured parallel the creations of other celebrated New York artists in an art exhibition and silent auction "Indian Ocean Tsunami Relief Benefit" in March 2005.  In spring-summer of 2005, as part of "Long Road Home", "ReZervations, USA" was exhibited at the AICH Gallery, NYC. "ReZervations, USA" is a sponsored project of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA).  In July 2005, NYFA awarded Spirit Buffalo yet another sponsorship. This time for the movie "Entering the ReZ".  On December 2006, An international club called Pacha invited Spirit Buffalo to exhibit his photographs for it’s first anniversary in New York.  Summer 2007, Spirit Buffalo travels to Thailand, Uganda, Brazil and Pennsylvania to co-produce and photography direct a documentary about orphaned children living with HIV/AIDS with working title “Tiny Tears” which was premiered at the United Nations, New York in Spring 2008.  In January 2010, his work was exhibited at The Chelsea Art Museum at a group show entitled IN/SIGHT.  He continues his work on collaborations with artists & nonprofit organizations thru his video & photography.
