There is something very telling about someone's persona that reveals more about them and their inner workings than one would think. I believe who it is someone tries to be, or their outward appearance in general, sheds light on what it is they are trying to change, hide or satisfy within themselves. The idol one chooses to imitate or relate to is by no means a coincidence. People are, in a sense, who they try to be. Thus: Two-Faced Photography.
I've been playing in the dark room since the beginning of highschool...12 years ago now, where a Friend turned me on the works of Joel-peter Witkins in art class. Since then his style and techniques have been something I use to learn from, yet not imitate. His Taste and candour represent the unsaid and unseen in this, our "modern" culture. I dont want to pigeon-hole myself as a certain kind of photographer... But my goal is to bridge the gap between the ALT Fashion and the Fine art worlds. Most of my work goes in galleries, but most of the subject matter I am surrounded by bores me to death. So I have been working on a new goal, or direction for a year or so. trying to figure out what I can contribute to the "Art" community that isnt already there and over-done. To try and revitalise the renaissance of art and true expressionism that was so devastated by our culture of political correctness.
I currently sit on the Board for the Western Maine Art Group and I have designed and taught a handful of photography courses for local schools and non-profits through both the University of Maine and the Mahoosuc Arts Council.
Currently: I am looking for new projects and subjects to broaden my horizons.
