About Me

I am a full time professional sculptor, and while sculpting is my passion, it is not just a hobby but how I make my living.

My primary subject matter is the human form. I am known for two differ types of sculpture: 1. statues sculpted in the traditional way in different materials, bronze, raku fired clay, pewter, different resins, Forton MG, glass, etc. 2. life sculptures, also called life castings, in which impressions are made directly from the model using a quick, comfortable, and harmless process and then transformed into different materials. What touches the skin is alginate which is made from seaweed and the experience is similar to a seaweed wrap in a spa. Unlike plaster and even plaster bandages which were not intended for direct skin contact and pose some risks along with minimal detail retention, alginate is so safe that dentists use it to make impressions inside your mouth. Alginate's ability to capture detail is amazing, not only fingerprints and skin texture but even tattoos are clearly visible in the life sculptures.

I have 27 years experience in life casting and, let's just say, far more in traditional sculpting. If you have any desire to be captured in a piece of sculpture, please contact with your idea and I will explain the process and and give you a price.

While I do not normally do TFS, "S" meaning sculpture, I always have a number of ideas which could be just waiting for the right model to come along. It never hurts to ask. E.g., I am always interested in increasing my supply of perfect "life sculptures" for Forton MG, resin, and raku fired torsos. At this time, I am also looking for both male and females who are serious fitness enthusiasts. If you have an exceptionally proportioned and conditioned body and feel you might be idea for either of these projects, I would love to talk with you. If selected, participation would only take a couple of hours and you will receive a "life sculpture" to keep which will have a value of $1.200.00. There is a possibility of residuals ($) as well.

My goal is to create pieces of art that present the human form in a classically beautiful manner (never sleazy nor pornographic), hopefully with emotion. Also, I want my work to last and for that reason, most but NOT ALL of what I do are nude. Jean Cocteau said, "Art makes ugly things which frequently become beautiful in time. Fashion, on the other hand produces beautiful things which always become ugly with time." Since the materials that we sculptors use can really last for hundreds or even thousands of years, I want people way off into the future will see a "Parvin" and say, "Oh wow!" and not, "Look at the ugly clothes." There is a kind of immortality with sculpture both for the artist and the model.

I always consider the models with whom I work to be partners in the creative process and encourage their ideas and input. I do not expect nor allow someone to work FOR ME without some compensation. In addition, if the sculpture is FOR MY USE, my normal practice is to give the model a copy of the artwork which could be quite valuable.

If you happen to be under 21, I would prefer that you bring an escort, preferably your mother or a close friend, to at least our first meeting. 21 and older, an escort is still welcome, whatever makes you comfortable. By the way, I have been married to the same person for over fort-three years, have one son and two young grandsons.

Though it depends upon the concept, I prefer models for my own work who are athletically conditioned like a dancer. I am much more interested in proportion than height. I am not a fan of breast enhancements if disproportionately large. While I do use male models occasionally, the female form is much more commonly depicted in art.

My studio is at 6857 Leetsdale Drive a block east of Monaco just off the road on the north side. I am generally there during normal working hours M - F. Visitors are welcome but you must contact me first. While I am first and foremost a sculptor, I have also had an extensive aviation career that began with flying helicopters in VietNam in the Marine Corps.

I have an interest in preserving ethnicity now before all humans have become homogenized. If you not only have a great look but are 100% a particular ethnic group, I would love to discuss preserving you. I am affiliated with a museum where the collection will eventually reside.
If you would possibly like to work with me or just come by and see what we do and talk art, feel free to contact me through MM or my direct email, parvinstudio@comcast.net. But I would much prefer to talk than type since we can cover so much more in a far shorter amount of time. I can usually be reached on my cell (720) 971-0824. You can find me on Facebook where I am listed as david.e.parvin.
Life Casting Workshop

Several times a year, I conduct five day very complete life casting workshops in my Denver studio. The price is $995.00 including model fees and all materials. The dates for my next one are April 27 - May 1, 2015. Space is limited, the maximum number of attendees is only six assuring lots of personal attention. Contact me for complete information.

I have also had a long interest in photography though mostly I have used it as a tool in the sculpting process, for my articles, and for marketing my work. But I do have a desire to capture in photographs the human form in the same kinds of  artistic compositions that I strive for in my sculpture.  There are some examples in my portfolio. If you are interested in being depicted in this manner, I am open to TF.

I have written about a hundred published articles on various aspects of the art world. I am a regular contributor to "ArtMolds Journal" in which I write an article for each issue plus answer questions submitted by readers in my "Ask Dave" column. I have two instructional DVDs available on life casting.
I am an honorary lifetime member of the "Association of Lifecasters International" (A.L.I.), am a member of the board of directors of the A.L.I., and am one of only five people in the world recognized as a "Certified Lifecasting Instructor" by the A.L.I.
One of my pieces took first place in this organization's last international contest.
In one one survey, I was named one of the three best known life casting experts in the world.
I have had the privilege of going to London, UK expenses paid to make a presentation to an international convention of motion picture make-up and special effects experts on new developments in life casting.
In addition, I have developed three products and numerous techniques widely used in sculpting and life casting.
While most of my pieces are in private collections some are on public display as mentioned above and at two universities.
I show in three galleries though most of my work is now by commission.
