Fashion from the Heart:
"clothing designer for the fashion forward" Erin is quickly making a name for herself as one of the area's preeminent designers. But it's
not all about looks.
"I love being able to do something artistic but also be able to give back to the community," says Healy, whose company, Erin Healy Designs, donates a portion of her sales to various local children's charities.
Designing a Future:
"Like any high school girl, I loved to go shopping," Healy says. But shopping excursions often were disappointing. Mall fare seldom offered what she had in mind. So she set her mind to designing her own looks. With family commitments that kept her from able to attend fashion design school, Healy became a student by proxy, ordering textbooks required by students of the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design to teach herself to sketch. She connected with Isabella's in St. Augustine to learn pattern making, attended her first textile show in 2005 and debuted her first line in 2006.
Healy's look can be described as Coco Chanel meets Gwen Stefani. "Classy with a little edge to it" she says. She's particularly fond of flowy, beach-friendly fashions that can be worn with flip-flops by day, then glammed up with a belt and heels for a night out. She's inspired by "all the elements of the earth," Healy says, though her lines also include silk cocktail dresses and ornate tops that can be part of a dressy ensemble or paired with jeans and heels.
Where You'll See Her:
Healy's designs can be shopped at Apropo's Boutique in Sawgrass Village in Ponte Vedra Beach, Jaffi's in Neptune Beach and The Closet in St. Augustine. You might have seen her designs featured in the August 2008 issue of Lucky Magazine. Evanescence front-woman Amy Lee Hartzler has worn several of Healy's looks.
"It's getting bigger and bigger each year," says Healy, whose fashion shows have grown from a small event at Cafe 11 in St. Augustine to Miami International Fashion Week 2010 Emerging Designer Competition Finalist . She's focused on growing her influence throughout the Southeast.
