I enjoy photography for the art and do not expect monetary compensation for something that I love doing. I am available for photo shoots most afternoons during the week and on weekends. I prefer to shoot on location in the Sydney city area.
My photography career began late in life when I was given the opportunity to photograph emerging Western Sydney performance artists and was introduced to Sydney’s contemporary art scene over a number of years.
In 2007, I completed formal training in camera craft and lighting at the Australian Centre for Photography. Then in 2008, I was a finalist with a self-portrait in the Marrickville Contemporary Art Prize.
In 2010, I attended a Boudoir Salon (MM#1232391) photography workshop which provided me with a good foundation for fine art nude photography. I take inspiration from Nobuyoshi Araki (http://www.arakinobuyoshi.com
), a prolific Japanese photographer and contemporary artist who is most well known for his nude photos of women. I am also influenced by Petter Hegre’s (MM#371733) artistic nude photography.
Documentary photography has also had a great influence on my photography. I am fascinated with the macabre/dark side of life, the type of things that most people don’t talk about and do not want to think about. I take inspiration from Stephen Dupont’s (http://www.stephendupont.com
) powerful and confronting photographic work.
My artistic expression is influenced by the desire to fully understand the impact made by childhood trauma on us later in life. Depression awareness is a topic that is very important to me, having suffered from long-term major depression. I use photography as a tool to explore these emotions and try to come to terms with feeling different.
My photography has been exhibited in contemporary art galleries around Sydney, Australia.
