About Me

Niiamar (Sudanese for “King”) was born in 1983 in Jacksonville, Florida. His designs have been featured in several publications, fashion shows, theatre productions and national marketing campaigns. He was nominated for the notable Marvin Sims Design Fellowship in Costume Design awarded by the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts. While completing his undergraduate degree, he worked as a Design Assistant to renowned designer Kevan Hall in 2006. Niiamar received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida A&M University (FAMU) in 2007. Niiamar’s designs have been worn by Hollywood personalities to red carpet events, including the Academy Awards. Niiamar’s growing list of accomplishments include: a feature in EBONY Magazine; presentation of his spring collection during NYC Fashion Week in 2010; featured designer at the 2011 Women Who Care Luncheon. As a contestant on Lifetime's "24 Hour Catwalk", he impressed the panel of celebrity judges with his attention to detail and exceptional design aesthetics. He has served as Principal Costume Designer for the off Broadway productions of “The Doll Confessions” directed by Tony Award Winner Trezana Beverley, ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, for which he was nominated for an Audelco Award in Best Costume Design and Cole Porter’s “Kiss Me Kate.” He currently resides in New York City where he is Assistant Costume Designer at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts
