I was raised in the small town of Mayberry, Md., in Carroll County, and graduated from Francis Scott Key High School. At an early age I fell deeply in love with the arts. But like many young kids, I had no clue what to do with it or where it could lead me. I am eternally grateful to the wonderful teachers who helped plant and nourish that seed. Now I want them to know their efforts were not in vain.
My love for the arts was put on hold while I pursued a different calling – serving in the United States Army. This career path has been a blessing in disguise for me. It has given me the opportunity to serve our country and serve alongside some of the best people our great country has to offer. I’ve been fortunate to live in other countries and experience different cultures. I’ve seen firsthand the best and the worst in mankind. But most importantly, I believe, after 23 years in the military that included service in 20 countries and seven combat areas, I have matured. Through the years, that seed planted by my teachers has not laid idle. Instead, it has been nourished by each passing event and each experience.
