Nicolas Martinez was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic. As a boy he was introduced to sewing which remained his first love as he went on to study engineering. It was sewing that sparked the idea of a life built out of creativity. In 2002 he moved to New York City to pursue his dream of becoming a designer. His journey began on 7th Ave, in a bridal house where he learned the beauty of working with exquisite fabrics and the rewards in giving women what they wanted most – personalized attention. Later, in the workroom of an exclusive uptown designer he saw first hand the nuances of custom design and what is necessary to open his own design house.
Nicolas’ work is characterized by exacting craftsmanship, particularly in the use of hand beading, beautiful silk fabrics, and designs that show off a woman’s most alluring and feminine qualities. Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, the two designers that inspire him the most have set the mark for sophistication, elegance, and an intuitive understanding of a woman’s body.
With this collection he has taken up that challenge. So with inspiration and great care he has given each dress its very own identity. He is passionate about making each woman feel special, and giving her one-on-one attention when she chooses a NM Sandy original.
