Joel Meus' journey into photography began while studying kickboxing in Thailand. The exotic location, intense workouts, and meditation awakened Joel's passion for beauty that is only now matched by his technical skill and fierce dedication. Joel brings a unique vision to every project, whether he's capturing a pensive moment or showcasing high fashion design. In all his work, he tries to draw out the raw and edgy essence of the human form.

I have known Joel for over 10 years now. I knew him when he was working in tough dive bars, having to break up fights every night, unsure of his future direction. He’s also always had a love for kickboxing and many years back he had the opportunity to train with some of the best in Thailand. While strengthening his physical skills overseas, he picked up a camera, and started taking snapshots everywhere he went to document his trip. This time period was the turning point in his life. He came back to Boston & soon after began to attend the New England School of Photography , later graduating in 2004. While attending NESOP, Joel’s key interests turned to studio lighting and fashion. He started to pick up some freelance photo jobs doing portraiture and working more closely with stylists and make-up artists. Since then, he has done many fashion related shoots and worked full-time with a few major photography companies.
Joel is an intense photographer. It is not often that I get to work with someone so focused on and excited by what they are doing. His energy, while on a shoot with him, increases mine. I am so happy with the way he organized all the models, hair & make-up people to shoot my jewelry collection and turn out some amazing shots. I have the utmost confidence in him and his work.
