As a blue-eyed brunette who wears a size 2 at 5' 10", friends, family, and passers-by frequently suggest that I seriously consider modeling. Though always flattered by such comments, I had never thought to act upon them and transform what I often brushed aside as whimsical fantasies into full-blown reality until recently.
Whether I'm gazing up at a billboard or flipping through the pages of a magazine, I have always found myself longing to become integrated into the world of fashion as a model. It is the ability to not only mimic or represent, but actually to create and truly become a part of an aesthetic that sheds light on a certain way of life or mode of living that fascinates me. Fashion, and all that it entails (modeling and the photos that capture it included), is all too often mislabeled as superficial, for it, as is true of many art forms, is the means by which we attempt to represent who we are or who we envision ourselves to be. A model, through her manipulation of her body and face in relationship with her surroundings, apparel and the lens of a camera can bring to life a feeling, a thought, an aesthetic. She and the photographer together can turn that which was stagnant into something dynamic.
