My name is Kendra Plathe and I am freelance photographer based out of Ames/Algona, Iowa. I have experience in many types of photography such as: portraits, photojournalism, concerts, events, commercial, wedding, nature, candid, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I have never specialized in just one type of photography, because I love challenging myself and experiencing new things. Photography is truly what I love, so why not capture as much as possible? Photography is never ending learning, and I am never going to stop!
Random Story:: The other day I was walking through the light section of a hardware store with my mom when I told her..
"I have always loved walking through the light section of hardware stores for some reason, well.. actually my eye is attracted to a lot of different lights especially really lit cities and downtowns! Wait..... maybe that is why I love photography because photography actually means writing with light!!"
-I don't know if she exactly understood what I was talking about, but I did. lol
I didn't really start photography until my sophomore year of high school, and I only have one person to thank for inspiring me to pursue photography as a profession, my art teacher Broz! (Steve Brosnan) Broz is truly the best artist I know and is one of my greatest inspirations. He made me look at art in a whole new way, really searching for the meaning and realizing that everything in this beautiful world is truly art! He is currently battling cancer, so I please ask you to keep him and every cancer patient in your prayers, thank you!!
My first two years at college I attended Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa where I studied photography. I then transfered to Iowa State University as a business major, but soon switching to a journalism and mass communication major. While attending ISU I have worked at the school paper, The Daily (photojournalist/photo editor), a photographer for Ethos and Trend magazine, while also photographing a lot of my own freelance work for KMPphotography. I am interested in finding models to help expand my portfolio and try out some new techniques. Message me if interested!
