About Me

Manhattan-Based photographer, writer, graphic designer and documentary filmmaker with a penchant for arts, politics and travel among a host of other things. Raised by a pair of artist a bit off the grid, Heydt’s academic career was spent overseas at institution as varied as ‘La Sorbonne’, ‘Universidad de Buenos Aires’ and the ‘Universiteit van Amsterdam’. Her aptitude for language and passion for photography and travel can be attributed to the aforemetioned, as can her interests in social advocacy which later propelled her to earn a degree in Communications from ‘The New School’ with a focus in journalism and gender studies. After which, Heydt went on to pursue a degree in Photography from ‘Parsons the New School for Design’- graduating Summa Cum Laude from both programs. While comfortable in a multitude of contexts, her skill set primarily lies in audio-visual production, journalism, graphic design and brand management. Having always regarded the camera as a tool for social advocacy, Heydt’s conceptual work speaks to issues of socioeconomic inequality, as well as the consequences of consumerism, as do the photographs she candidly shoots on her travels. From an orphanage in India to a dying fisherman village in Uruguay, a paper trail of images document the experiences that later come to inform her personal practice. As a fine art photographer, She has been internationally exhibited twice in the 'The State Hermitage Museum' in Russia, as well as in a constellation of galleries across Europe, New York and Los Angeles. Her clients include, but are not limited to: W Magazine, VMag/Visionaire, le Florentine, Photo Magazine. In Spring 2012, she was inducted into “the Contemporaries”. Her portfolio can be viewed on the official website www.samheydt.com.
