Mayhem # 1609458
I am a multi-faceted artist with a large body of work that ranges from wearable art to large-scale installations. My work has been shown in numerous galleries and has been widely featured in both online and print publications including TED, The Wall Street Journal, Boingboing.net, Elle Magazine, LA Weekly, Los Angeles Magazine, Los Angeles City Beat, Sunset Magazine and more.
My Model Mayhem account features my wearable art collection, which is whimsical, highly detailed work that is based on abstractions of fashion and sculpture on the human form. They are one-of-a-kind, sculptural creations that explore design by blending traditional and unconventional materials.
I began making wearable art in 2003. It all began with a hat. The mouse head hat (seen in my port paired with the spork dress) was my first piece, and after making it I realized that wearing one's art is an amazing way to interact with people, because you see people react to your art from the point of view of the art piece. The expressive nature and versatility of wearable art as a medium has continued to inspire me.
Every piece you see here was designed and created by me. Most of these pieces started out as raw materials - meaning they started out as yards of fabric, leather hides, and sheets of metal. All of the fabrication -- sculpting, sewing, leather craft, and metal work (shaping, cutting, milling, welding) -- was all done with my two hands.
I am an artist and fabricator with skills in sculpture, clay, foam, paper mache, fiberglass, metal fabrication, carpentry, sewing and leather craft. I am based in Los Angeles, and have been making wearable art for more than ten years. I love to collaborate, so if you have a creative idea that you want to explore, hit me up. I am very busy but will try and squeeze time in for worthwhile projects.
Thanks for checking out my work!
