1. I'm getting back into the photography business after about twenty years of running a marketing design business here in Nashville. I used to shoot for regional commercial clients in a big studio back when we had something called film.
2. I only shoot adults. I shoot mainly for use in my art pieces. While I want to make really great photos, I'm more interested in how they're going to look on canvas in my art.
3. If you shoot with me, I'll do my best to have time to shoot things you want to shoot in addition to what I shoot. If I use your images in pieces of art, I'll also give you a digital image of the final art piece.
4. I do not mind if you bring an escort. (I prefer it)
5. Many photographers shoot one style. I'd like to be regarded as one photographer who can shoot many styles. Fear of boredom I guess...
6. KISS is my favorite rule in art and design... Keep it simple stupid!
7. I only like flakes in my breakfast cereal. I don't work well with other flakes.
8. I would not ask a model to do anything I wouldn't do. In fact, I wouldn't ask a model to do a lot of the things that I would do.
9. I am not here to date.
10. I love doing photography. I hate talking about photography. Let's talk about you, let's talk about me, let's talk about the last movie you saw.
11. I'm not a big fan of texting, when attempting to have a full conversation. See #12. #13 and #14. Texting is fine for "Are we still on for coffee.", "I'm running 10 minutes late.", etc.
12. Flakes upset me because I value my time. I only shoot during the week, during the day so that I can have time with my wife and family at night and on the weekends. When I'm not shooting, I'm working on my art. If we schedule a shoot, please show up. I know things happen at the last minute, so at least call me and give me a heads up!
13. I like to meet for coffee beforehand. You get to see that I'm not a creep and I get to see that you're not a flake.
14. I WILL NOT set up a shoot without speaking on the phone. It's OK to get things started with a few messages but when it comes to planning, a 5 minute phone conversation beats the hell out of two weeks worth of message replies.
15 I usually do not pay models, clients pay models... so please don't tell me that you'd like to shoot and then send me your rates. If you've got enough photos in your portfolio and only add to it with paid shoots, that's great.
16. I require a model release and a copy of your identification. Period.
17. I'll give you a release to use the photos from our shoot any way you want. I will edit the photos down to the best ones. The bad ones will not see the light of day. (I get to choose the bad ones!)
18. I don't do a lot of over editing. I usually only get the color right, knock out major blemishes and let it roll. If you really need more, I'll consider it, but not on every photo.
19. PHOTOGRAPHERS! Stop being such weirdos around models. It makes it hard for them to trust other photographers and gives us all a bad name.
20. I have a female assistant. She works with me on all shoots. She'll help you get ready and she'll help me. She's here for your comfort and mine.
21. My assistant and I have children. Children sometimes get sick, children sometimes need us at odd times during the day. We may need to cancel a shoot because of our children. They come first.
22. I will always reply to messages. It make take a couple of days, but I will reply. I have a very busy life and sometimes keeping all of the plates spinning is a big task. Sometimes I drop a plate.
23. I have my studios set up at home. I work from home, do my art from home and shoot photography at home. We have our house set up so that it essentially is a large studio. You might have to occasionally step over a Lego or a Barbie, but it's a great place to shoot and very comfortable. I usually have coffee in the pot and don't mind making a new pot.
24. I also shoot on location and you might have to put on your hiking boots to get to a location, but that's part of the adventure!
25. If I send you an email, please answer it, even if it's with a "not interested".
