Photographing something obvious, like say beauty, simplifies the result to pure technicality because there is no need for creativity. My college professor once said, "photographing a pretty woman is not a difficult task, because no matter what you do the picture would come out ok, because the captivating subject would no doubt cover up some of your technical flaws. Try going to Paris and photographing the many piles on the streets and make them look appetizing, now that would be a major accomplishment!" - aside from the dark humor, there is subtle and not so subtle truths in that. I strive to find some charm, some magic, some intriguing quality in what i do as a visual artist. I say "visual artist" because i don't consider myself purely a photographer. a photographer takes photos, I make visual statements and the camera is only one method I use to convey my ideas.
