My name is Maile (My-Lei) Wedemeyer. Made in Paradise. Birthplace: Kona. Glowing in sunshine since the 10th of May (once) upon Hawai'i, the BIG Island of Hawai'i. Raised simply "island-style" within the lava flows, forests, waters and reefs of our forever changing Hawaiian Archipelago. I am a Island Girl, Global Explorer... Ambassador *INTERNATIONAL AMBASSADOR (o: Here at home, Hawai'i, the deffinitions of our language are identified by the feeling one recieves as they finally absorb their meaning. Well, many have asked, "What does your name mean?"
*Maile (My-Lei): The oldest and most popular material used in leis by our early Hawaiian ancesters. A native Hawaiian vine, with shiny fragrant leaves, a member of the periwinkle family, associated with Laka, the goddess of Hula. Maile along with other plants of the native forest were considered sacred to Laka, and were offered before her altar during hula dance practices and ceremonies. In ancient Hawaii, the maile was also considered a peace offering in the field of battle, given before and/or after war.
