Sim Tan Au was born in Hong Kong on August 23rd 1984. After finishing Higher Diploma in Fashion Design in The Hong Kong Polytechic University in 2005, she worked as handbag designer and studied abroad in Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design, London from 2006 to 2010. During her time in CSM, she did internships in Berube (London), Tata-Naka (London) and Mint Designs (Tokyo). She enjoys transferring and exchanging knowledge with other people which made her became guest tutor in Bauhaus-University (Weimar) and volunteering in Traid's sew good workshop.
Received professional training in both technique of garment production and creative design, she always tries new methods to create designs. She believes that fashion design is a mobile art work which provides solutions for people to express their identities through clothing and she always pays attention to colour and texture in designs. Technology, transformation and architectural elegance are the elements of her style. She is investigating origami methods in making patterns, which garments are cut in one piece of rectangular fabrics as she believes that this can reduce the amount of fabric waste cut out. This has became her main line when she founded TunAlien in 2010. As she is a supporter of green living style, her company is also dedicated in garment redesigning and garment recycling scheme.
