Madeline Vargas, who is known by her pseudonym "Madame Couture", is a native New Yorker. She has an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Occupational Studies from Wood Tobe - Coburn School as well as a Fashion Design degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Before Madeline became a Fashion Designer, she held various jobs that were setting the path before her in the fashion industry. While attend college she was a Part-time assistant Visual Merchandiser for JCPenny’s until 1997. She Interned as a Fashion Stylist/ Trend Forecaster for Simplicity Patterns , and freelanced for Children’s wear designer Bernard Kay in 1998. Madeline participated as hostess of the Fashionable Addresses Event organized by Fashion Group International in 1996 where Fashion Designers like Adrienne Vittadini and Wolfgang Joop just to name a few; Who opened the doors of their homes for the public to fundraiser for breast cancer. Madeline has had the opportunity to work for designers like betsy Johnson, Versace, Oscar De La Renta, Carolina Herrera, and Joop during fashion week when it was known in the 90's as 7TH on Sixth. In 1995 Madeline Vargas founded the independent label Lespinasse Design Studios. The label is managed by her herself. Lespinasse Design Studios has catered to women of smaller sizes for the past 20 yrs. Fortunately for the plus size market , the Lespinasse label will be launching their first women's wear plus size sister label “Madame Couture Collection” coming Fall 2011.
