Many of you know me as Merrick Monroe, model #326498. Most of my time on Model Mayhem has been spent in front of the camera, not behind it. That doesn't mean I am new to photography.
I've been practicing photography longer than I have been a model, and my experiences in both realms have greatly benefited both skills. My style as a photographer leans towards intimacy, expression, and capturing a beautiful moment in time... which is not to say I don't shoot beyond those things. I am familiar with both digital and film and enjoy switching between the two for a variety of results.
No impersonal friend requests here; I'm trying to grow my network and add useful contacts. If I send you a request it's because I live near you and would like to work with you. :)
Currently I am most interested in shooting with people who are artists and creators in their own right. As a model I am very familiar with erotica and nude modeling, which I would like to explore as a photographer as well. Other areas of interest include playing around with the concept of beauty (whatever that means to you), alternative/dark fashion and models, androgyny and gender-bending, and utilizing interesting locations within the city.
I prefer shooting on location and with natural light. If there's a specific idea you have that will require a studio and lighting setup, that is certainly possible but will take more time to plan. I am never going to tape a sheet to a wall and grab a couple clip lamps and call it good. That is very much *not* good, in my opinion.
There might be instances where I'd like to do or add to a model's makeup to achieve a certain look, but as for hair I'm rather shite. I can provide a modicum of wardrobe for certain looks... I design a line of jewelry and do clothing modification, so I am on the lookout for models who fit the aesthetic of my brand and always have pieces available for those interested. Regarding photo editing: I really, really abhor overuse/abuse of Photoshop. Most of my image editing focuses on working with colours and levels, adjustments to the composition, etc. I am capable of quality photo retouching but I will never drastically alter someone's natural appearance to make them look "better". Never ever. I wouldn't want to photograph you if you weren't already totally awesome looking. :D
