A True Pisces, full of ideas and fantasy. That's why it's hard to know her by one name. You may call her Kay, Keeyz, Kimmy, Kay-Hov or her real name Kohava. She likes to call herself the "young lioness". Kay believes in making a difference and wants to help change the face of fashion, and modeling. Being petite is challenging, but when it comes to runway and a lot of commercial jobs, the right person with the right skills can open so many doors. From a young age Kay has always been told that she has the "it" factor. She never knew exactly what "it" was, but she has always known that there was something different about her and people are drawn to it. She prides herself on being innovative and versatile. She wears many different hats.
Currently, Kay writes a fashion blog called Yahz Sheez Fierce! The blog covers Fashion-Culture, Music, and Politics. She is also Director of Admin and Coordinator for We Do Fashion, Inc. twitter.com/wedofashion. The owner and CEO of this Canada based company found her through mutual friends on the social media network Facebook and immediately liked what he saw. After speaking to Kay he could tell he was working with a monster. For the past two seasons the WeDoFashion Inc. Shows have been stellar. Now that the company has taken Atlanta by storm things are looking very bright for the future. Kay loves getting every day people involved in fashion.
"It's very important because everyone has style. When you look your best you preform your best is what I believe."
Kay, like most women who have lived in the South, turned to both teaching and nursing as a career. She gave both a try, but found she still felt empty inside. She knew she wanted more. Something was missing, and she wasn't going to find it at home with her parents or working in a hospital or classroom. Though both of those things are admirable and her family and friends saw it as a very successful path, she wanted to take off and do something unconventional and taboo.
After relocationg to Atlanta from Charleston, South Carolina in the summer of 2010, she became a first year student at American Intercontinental University, Dunwoody in Atlanta, GA. She is currently majoring in Fashion Design and she's also taking dual courses in Business.
"I'm excited about all of the new avenues I'm going down."
Moving from South Carolina, by herself, to go back to school was a big step. Things didn't go as planned with her longterm relationship and Kay explains how she spent many nights feeling depressed and aimless. She felt worthless at times, but she made a promise to God and herself that she would do something great and extraordinary with her life. She always says she wants to kick in doors and she's taking no prisoners. People who know her know she's a fireball, and she will tell it just like it is. She works hard and plays even harder. She loves life and wants to live it to the fullest; abundantly.
"I'm glad I had the courage to take the steps I've taken so far. I've fallen many times on this road and I know I may fall again. I have so many people counting on me to do well, including myself. I have to be successful in life. Not being a success... that would definitely be my only fear."
"Sometimes things don't always go as planned, but with faith and someone who believes in you, your dreams will begin to take shape before your very eyes. Things will become bigger than you ever imagined. Holding on to your dreams no matter what is important. "
Her vision for the future goes far above and beyond , but we'll start with a dream about an amazing shoe line. By the way did we mention she is the shoe queen? Other than people in her immediate life, her biggest influences are Christian Louboutin whom she likes to call the "shoe gawd", Alexander McQueen (RIP) and Betsy Johnson.
"They all have outspoken and unique styles that I've always admired. I love abstract things. I tend to think outside the box a lot and I love metaphors."
Kay hopes that one day, her love for things unseen and new will help reshape the fashion world, and of course, contribute to the amazing styles we already know and love. Get to know Kay-Hov, The Queen.
