"On the day I stand before my Lord at my journey’s end, I want to be able to say with great confidence, that I used every ounce of talent that He bestowed upon me.” Lee Brones
Being a lover of all sciences I decided to leave my home for the United Kingdom in 2001 to study Bsc (Hons) Forensic Science at London South Bank University. If I could could I would do it again. My lecturers & friends were A Class and I found out some of my strengths in the years I lived in London. Other courses I have studied include Building, Auditing, Book Keeping, and I continue to work as a volunteer at the Forensic Science Unit in Darwin. Casually I read up on everything however recently I have been interested in Style, Make Up, Wardrobe, Photography, Film and Animation.
Having a gifted sister who could sing, we made great entertainment as a duo for ourselves dancing and singing in front of mirrors growing up. My love for the performing arts some what disciplined me to always taking all aspects of entertainment seriously, which has in turn given myself opportunities to involve myself in many theatre, films and dance productions.
My performances are delivered with full emotion and I use my passion for performing arts to do this. Often I am involved with acting workshops and centres such as Corrugated Iron Youth Centre. My last show performed with CIYC was 'Fear'. Fear was a short play consisting of 2 star actors at Brownsmart Theatre, as part of the Fist Full Of Films Festival here in the NT. Betchay Mondragon co-directed Children Of 2 Worlds and has been always an inspirational lady that feeds me to perform well. The Call Of Guadalupe where I played 2 characters within the production, was on show at the Darwin Entertainment Centre & was also Directed by Betchay.
My dance background with an audience other then my family, began in Katherine where I participated in all primary school dance and acting functions and was an A* acting high school student at Dripstone High School. I travelled to Darwin to gain my bronze medallion at Furlanos Dance Studio for ballroom dancing at the age on ten. I continued dancing at high school in Darwin and involved myself with CIYC.
At the age of 6 yo I was NT Athletics Champion in Katherine and further onto Darwin. My sprinting ability enabled me to travel and complete on a national and international level in Australia. My strongest events were, 100m, 200m and relay. I was the first Northern Territory athlete to win gold at Home Bush Stadium in the 100m at the age of 14, making me one of Australia's fastest undefeated female sprinters at the time.
During High School, Donovan Jenkins scouted me at our school disco to be his dance partner in The Eisteddfod. Donavan & I impersonated Michael and Janet Jackson and won the competition with the highest scores ever given 97/100 for our dynamic performance. This score has yet to be defeated to date.
Free styling has been a childhood passion of mine always, so I didn't hesitate to earn extra pocket money whilst studying in London. Dance 4 me Productions scouted me and I free-styled at various club venues. Through this I landed a modelling contract and began photographic shoots, promotional & guest appearances model work at several London VIP bars and clubs. On returning home from the UK, I continued modelling in Darwin and was crowned Miss Hidden Valley NT 2005 and represented the NT at the international finals in Melbourne, Australia.
I have not been to dance school thus my stage performances have conjured interest and I have been privileged in choreographing pop film clips for Chrissa Valanti. Appointed Head Dancer at Freestyle for Discovery Nightclub I created VJ short films and dancers bio records of rehearsals and performances for records sake and for those who wanted to take their profession further. My main aim passionately was to create a greater respect for Darwin’s free style dancers and to encourage those who wanted more out of dance to pursue their passion interstate and internationally.
Fire Dancing keeps me fit, and I have involved it in numerous acts I have performed in such as WITHOUT SEA 2006, The Darwin Convention Centre Opening, model competitions and free styling at Discovery Nightclub.
I now commit myself to Tracks Dance company where I have performed in MR BIG and STRUCK. Choreographic works of mine with Tracks include WITHOUT SEA and the ARAFURA GAMES OPENING CEREMONY 2007.
Poppy assists performers with their acts, directing, choreographing and volunteer myself in the short film industry.
Being a fast learner, I decided to involve myself more in creating short films. Through this I was approached by Xpose who requested film clips for both boat parties in Darwin's Port. I am familiar with Final Cut video editing software and have used it to create various short films and documentaries. Planet Dance NT heats and Australian finals were held at Discovery Nightclub, where I was asked to film and create a documentary record of the event.
Andrew Gillie and Damien Pree won Best Screen Play at The Fist Full of Films Festival 2008. My star role was a blonde who kills The Strangler with her 'high heel'.
