Studio and location photographer with a photography studio in Capitol Hill.
Often in the Mt Vernon/Bellingham area as well.
I do fashion, glam, portraits, headshots, artistic nude.
I love photography and love the interaction among the model, the photographer, the moment, the space, and the camera.
For me, a successful fashion or portrait picture is one that catches a little of the presence and personality of the model, that lifts their likeness off the page or screen and makes you feel as if you have personally known them.
Not a big fan of overly photoshopped images--if you want a painting, go out and buy some paints--if you're using a camera, you should make a photograph, and let the image pretty much speak for itself. (Yes, I do get rid of blemishes, stray hair, and the occasional wrinkle with photoshop, but I really dislike the plastic fantastic look....)
I shoot digital for color and film for black and white. Do my own b/w printing.
Most of my shoots are at my studio because I think the emphasis should be on the model, not the setting, so I generally favor plain backgrounds, and the great lighting and contrast that you get in a studio. But I also enjoy outdoor shoots and location shoots.
I like to have a relaxed shoot with a lot of collaboration between me and the model/mua--if everyone's not intensely focussed on what they're doing, not enjoying what they're doing, it makes for some hideous pictures,
so making sure the shoot works for everyone is what it's all about for me.
Happy to do tfp/tfcd with models with vibrant personality
