Photographer and Choreographer. Jason McQuain, born April 15, 1981, in Charleston, West Virginia, is one of 5 children. From the age of 8, Jason was into all sorts of art (dance, music, acting, etc.). His first love was dance after seeing Michael Jackson moonwalk. He knew that one day he would be a huge force to be reckoned with in the world of dance. After graduating high school he pursued his dancing full time from NYC to L.A., taking classes and auditioning as he traveled.
During a dance gig in L.A., he met a photographer shooting at the beach and asked what he was shooting. After seeing the landscapes the photographer was shooting, Jason had a curious spark for capturing the places he went to.
After his 22nd birthday Jason became a flight attendant so that he could travel the world and see different places to photograph. He soon noticed after a few months of showing the photos to people that he had a big talent in this new art form.
After Independence Air went bankrupt, Jason shifted his focus to share a balance between choreography and photography. Shortly thereafter, Jason started working on a duel portfolio.
After dancing for artists and on TV shows (Sherell Rowe, Monica, Mya, Beyonce, Janet Jackson and the BET talk show/youth show Teen Summit, to name a few), he turned his love for acting into action by auditioning for STEP UP. After landing extra roles in Step Up and Step Up 2, Jason continued his dancing with Dark Planet Records.
In 2007, Jason felt it was time to get into his photography full time. He started work on a BFA at The Art Institute of Washington in April 2007. During his first quarter, he was entered into a contest sponsored by Home Depot called the Life Without Trees project. He won first place and a gallery spotlight at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. This was an incredible feat for a first quarter student and a great honor.
Since then, he has had the opportunity to work alongside some of todayâs best and most renowned fashion photographers such as Mike Ruiz, Joelle Phillips, and Roy Cox.
Jason is currently working as a fashion photographer and creative director in Washington, DC.
