About me
As a first generation Mexican-American, words like "identity" and
"culture" do not just inhabit my world, they bombard it. I find that
these words are difficult to explain because they are not words of
permanence. Identity and culture are words of motion and of evolution.
These are words with singular, personal and collective meanings, which
depending on from what perspective they are defined, can be inclusive
or exclusive of a variety of components.
The journey I am beginning to embark upon with these proposed pieces
explores the syntheses of icons from the two primary cultures in which
I've been raised. In this process, I have discovered an endless
abundance of meanings by which to explore these concepts of culture
and identity that for me, are most difficult to express otherwise.
