My name is Charlotte and I’m a photographer living and working in West London. Like loads of other photographers you'll meet here, I've got a day job. Unlike most of MM's aspiring shooters, I'm good with that and I'm not going to pretend that I'm some glamourous, globetrotting creative, who's going to make an exception just this once and shoot TF for you. I mainly shoot unpaid, but when I charge - it tends to be for a specific commercial product and it's usually quite a lot.
I take photographs because I enjoy the creative process, not because I want to make money out of it. This frees me to be able to shoot what I want - not what someone else expects. These days, cameras are everywhere – everyone thinks they are a photographer. Ironically, real quality is more elusive than ever before. You don't need to make your living with a camera to be an awesome photographer - but you do need to have skill and vision.
My work is made with available light – which to me, means any damn light that’s available. If it’s not where I need it, I’ll bring my own. Awesome portraits don’t shoot themselves; they’re a result of inspiration and artistic interpretation, carefully blended with meticulous preparation and technical know how. Nothing stands still; I’m always learning new skills and searching for the latest techniques. Perfection’s just over that hill, y'know?
To make sure that I get the shot I want, no matter what, I use Nikon bodies with fast professional lenses and a whole bunch of speedlights. I use an Apple Mac and Adobe software. I'm lucky - I can afford good kit and I've got enough time to call my own that I have time to study, learn and improve. I've usually got half a dozen creative projects on the go at any one stage. Although some can take years!
When I’m not herding pixels, I ride a bicycle and drink too much coffee. I probably don’t sleep enough.
I like to plan ahead; if a photograph is worth making, I’ll take the time that it deserves. If that means going back time after time until the bits are in the bag and on the card, fine. Unlike some, I'm not chasing a margin and if I'm working with you, I'll go the extra mile for you.
So there you are - if you're someone I want to make photographs with, I'll work on a TF basis and I'm willing to travel pretty much anywhere in London - or maybe further. I like to shoot on location, whether that's something that's been carefully planned and booked or whether it's a run-and-gun shoot out on the street. I'm happy to go where other photographers fear to tread, too. Abandoned buildings and a bit of civil trespass, no problem.
I particularly want to get involved in making portraits of sportspeople, musicians and male/older models and it would be great to work with other creatives, MUAs, stylists and any other collaborators locally here in Ealing.
