My interest in photography started about ten years ago with the purchase of my first DSLR Fuji S2 camera. Thinking that equipment was the answer to great photography I soon learned that there was much more to this hobby than met the eye.
In the past ten years I have spent time and money trying to sort out all the claims from the multitude of magazines and books as to what is really needed to be a professional photographer. I have found it is not the equipment, not looking through the viewfinder, not having a big studio, but having the right person or object in the right light at the right time. That comes only with taking a lot of photographs. I am not a photographer with inate ability, I have to continuously hone my skills through trial and error and continuing education.
I am usually the oldest student in class, being over 65, but find with age I have life experience to offer and a willingness to absorb the sponteniety of the younger students.
I have built a small studio which I use for portraiture, food and product photography and to test new ideas and equipment. Equipment includes the Nikon D-700, various lenses including the Nikon AF-S 70-200 f2.8G ED VRII, Nikon 90mm f/2.8 macro 1:1 and Sigma 150-500mm telephoto lens.
I was a member of NAPP for several years and plan to join the local PPA affiliate this March at their open house meeting.
