Looking for something unique? Stand out with portfolio shots created with authentic photo processes from over a hundred and fifty years ago!
PLEASE NOTE: We're only taking new tintype and darkroom process clients at this time. All of our digital photographers are booked until the end of the year.
We offer authentic Civil War style photography (Tintypes and Ambrotypes), Film photography on new and old Black and White, C-41 Color or E-6 Slide stock, digital scanning or silver darkroom prints. Also enlarging to film (up to 42" x 52") for Alternative Process printing. Cyanotypes, Gum Bichromate, Carbon, Albumen and Salt Prints to name a few. Oh, and the latest in Digital Full Frame technology. But where's the fun in that?
This is our full time occupation, if you like our work, want a professional setting, quick communication and top notch processing... Hire us! Our rates are very reasonable! Your portfolio/event/project/idea deserves it! We offer TFCD on occasion for interesting projects/themes/ideas, unique looks or on occasion to new members in need of some portfolio assistance.
Note that for TFCD sessions we mostly focus on digital photography because darkroom processes are not only very expensive but require a lot of time after the session to develop, enlarge and scan.
I'm a professional photographer, instructor and historian of photographic processes and my team is located in Baltimore, Maryland near BWI Airport.
Proudly serving the area with in-studio and location photography, full darkroom on premises. We're a team of fun, energetic and easy going industry professionals. Otto is our co-pilot.
Wanted: Models for Civil War, Victorian, Steampunk, Gothic and Pirate themed shoots for authentic Wet Plate Collodion Plates (Black & White photos on a sheet of glass or replica tintype material).
Compensation: TFCD, High resolution digital scan of each successful plate.
We require a model release for all TFCD sessions as well as sessions where we, the photographers have paid you, the model for your services. TFCD sessions as well as sessions where you, the model have paid us, the photographers for our services will receive a property rights release to use our images of the session for your self-promotion.
Unless discussed beforehand, we try to maximize each TFCD session by matching up at least two photographers to shoot with you. Two weeks (usually one) after a TFCD session you will receive a download link in e-mail to an online, password protected gallery of your images from all of the photographers present during the shoot with a small credit to the photographer in the corner. You will receive at least 20 hand-picked, processed images per hour of digital photography shooting time, per photographer. If your session is being shot on Non-Digital related processes your per hour shot choices will be lower (see below)
We're happy to work with models of all skill levels and we also often invite novice photographers to the shoots who have recently taken studio lighting classes with us.
If we're shooting a Non-Digital TFCD session your turn-around time and images provided will be different. We do all of our film, alternative process and wet plate photography, development and printing in-house and that takes additional time. You'll also have fewer images. We rarely schedule a wet plate/film or alternative process shoot without additional digital photographers to keep everyone busy. After all, it takes 20 minutes per shot on some processes from creation to development.
We've had one request over the last many years for a 1:1 copy of our memory cards. We do not hand over unprocessed images for TFCD sessions. You wouldn't want us putting up an unflattering photo of you, we don't want you putting up an unflattering photo from us. We'll have test shots, calibration targets, our own people standing in while you're getting ready, pose duplicates, maybe a missed focus or two and sometimes we just get carried away and start shooting too quick for the studio lights to recycle. As hard as we try to make everything perfect in camera, we always retouch every single image for perfection before giving it to you. Maybe we didn't have our V8 that morning and everything needs rotation correction. You WILL get the best shots of the day (and if we have a productive day, you'll get a lot) but by working with us you are telling us that you like our style and trust us to make the decisions of what images are the best for your self promotion. If you absolutely MUST have a copy of the memory card and would rather pay your own post processing person we'll be happy to quote you our rates.
If you require an actual CD of the prints instead of an internet download, please let us know at the time of the shoot! Because nobody has asked for prints in the last five or so years we've stopped providing TFP. If you need prints, we'll be happy to provide prints at our cost for the prints. We'll pay shipping to get CD/DVD's or prints to you.
Officially, no images are provided to models we've paid. On occasion we ask models to come in for a special project or theme, if that model is interested in trading time for shots instead of monetary compensation, we'll be happy to offer TFCD where we can. But we don't pay a model in both monetary compensation and images unless otherwise agreed upon. That's not to say we've never, ever given a paid model images..
