Born in an old mill town in North West England, the contrasting local landscapes of urban and industrial decline, along with the desolate, rugged features of the West Pennine Moors should have provided me with my earliest artistic inspirations. However, they didn’t. My earliest artistic memories are relentlessly drawing maps and flags. Inspirational.
After studying art throughout my school and sixth form years, gaining good grades, and more importantly, good fundamental skills, the pursuit of what was usually deemed to be ‘real study’ got in the way. During this time, when work had to take a priority, I managed to maintain a high quality photography portfolio, but never enough to really satisfy my creative need.
However, after emigrating to Sweden around three years ago, I am slowly finding my artistic freedom again, and enjoying composing and creating sketches paintings. I have thousands of ideas, and am now trying to get as many of them out of my head into idea books without them fading.
Ongoing projects, projects in planning include:
- Coffee and ... (figure nude paintings, with a coffee in hand)
- Bejeweled (figure work, trying to develop into mixed media)
- The locker room (candid figure work inside the hustle bustle of the locker room)
- Aurora (landscape/colour experimentation paintings)
