The artwork of Stu Edwards
Oil Painter & Founder of the Canadian Alternative Arts Collective (CAAC)
An artist working out of Toronto, Stu Edwards attended the Nova Scotia school of Art & Design and the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto. His work is very much rooted in classical figurative realism and has cited master artists such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Leon Bonnat as his influences. While classical and figurative realism is at the foundation of all his work, Stu often includes elements of contemporary high-conceptualism and surrealism to his artistic style. The primary oeuvre of his work focuses on the complexities of human nature, showcasing an array of observations and outlooks -from pleasing and optimistic, to sometimes bleak or dystopian. Through his art and examining the psychology of humankind, Stu aims to achieve a deeper understanding of the "raison d'etre" of visual arts.
