About me
I am a self-taught male stylist specialising in afro hair styling, such as cornrows, braids, two-strand twists, gel twists, weaves, etc. I grew up with hairdressing in the family, and would watch my mother (a former hairdresser) create hairstyles on herself, family or friends, and began to pick up some hairdressing basics from her. I have always been fascinated with hair, especially as a child, learning about how wigs and extensions worked. I found the concept of hair transformation intriguing.

When I began growing my own hair, the obsession began. I occasionally read hair magazines and watched video blogs, for tips on maintenance and any new braid styles I could try. Through my research, I realised how profitable and incredibly versatile, artistic and ever-changing the hair world is. I took it upon myself, with basic braiding knowledge, to perfect cornrowing and cornrow designs.

I began taking on hair clients who wanted their hair cornrowed, mostly in and around my university. With practise, I developed a technique for neat, funky, versatile braid designs. I have also taught myself a method of adding hair extensions discretely to cornrows, which can add length to a style, sometimes colour, and maintain it for longer, whist protecting the hair. It has become very popular with my male clients who have shorter hair or softer hair types.

Through referrals, I was requested to help out at a few fashion shows and photo shoots, and began considering styling outside of just braiding. Reading more hair magazines and regularly attending the yearly Afro Hair and Beauty Live show, I started to delve into other areas of hair like weaving and styling, and applied my new found knowledge to create statement hairstyles on catwalks and at photo shoots.

My knowledge, skill, experience, and passion for hair continue to grow and I would love to work on more shoots and shows, as well as showcase my work in my own show. I really want to encourage more guys to get out there and learn braiding and barbering, as there is a big gap in the market for multi-skilled barbers who can both braid and shape-up hair, which would create a better, quicker experience for the customer (instead of maybe having to visit one location to have hair cornrowed, and another to trim and shape the hairline). Also, the stigma attached with hairdressers only being female or gay needs to end: many talented people out there, both male and female, could really showcase their creativity through braid art. and I hope one day to open a salon and course for budding barbers/braiders/stylists to become experts in every aspect of male and female Afro-European hair design.
