About Me

This MM profile is a reference page for models I have contacted. It is intended to be a brief bio/intro to help you decide if you want to work with me.

I started out in photography at age 12 helping my uncle, who did mostly weddings, but took whatever business walked in the door, including copy/restore of old photos and aerial. For me, this included some lab work in color, although most of my stuff was black and white using Kodak Tri-X ASA 400 pushed to 3200 with Diafine, which I am surprised to learn they still make (surprised it passes OSHA rules!). Exposure was done with the Sunny 16 rule outside, and desperate guessing indoors. Since it was black and white, I could develop the negatives and prints in the basement darkroom, so it was a lot cheaper for a low-income high school student than color.

These days I shoot digital, and although I don't particularly enjoy sitting at the computer post-processing images, it still beats standing in a dark room smelling, breathing, and putting your hands in, toxic chemicals.

I'm a hobbyist with no interest at all turning pro. I'm interested in the art of photography, not grinding out a small amount of money for a lot of hours and stress. I'm not interested in spending time marketing, selling, or any other of the many non-photographic aspects of the photography business. My photo time is reserved for the art of photography.

Since I'm not good at any area of photography, therefore, I practice everything. I shoot flowers, landscapes, sunsets, mountains, shoes, old wooden fences, leaves, food, etc. Unfortunately, my family are no longer patient models, so here I am.

Because it seems standard, I need to talk about the following: I welcome your well-behaved escort to the shoot. While I'm sure you are a nice person, I have zero interest in "dating" you, by any definition. I've been married for 10 years, lived with the same woman for 20 years, and have a daughter in elementary school. I'm not looking to extend my already busy social life here.

During my professional career, I spent more than 20 years, or depending on how you count, possibly 30 years, working in various aspects of the software, computer, and semiconductor industries.

Though I am not in the photography business, I have been in the business world for more than 30 years. In my experience, no surprise is a good surprise, so therefore, it is my goal that there be no surprises. A photo shoot is a production environment where time is money. Surprises waste time. A photo shoot should be routine, comfortable, well-known, familiar, and yes, even a little bit boring, just like Alfred Hitchcock's film production was. Because the technical aspects of the shoot are so boring, we can concentrate on having fun making the images. We will discuss ALL aspects of the shoot, in detail, ahead of time.

I welcome your input. I'm not a pro, I don't have perfect knowledge, training, or experience. Your experience and perspective from in front of the camera will definitely make the images, and the photographer, better.

Let's go shoot !

P.S. Consult my web site for more (and non-people) pictures.
