Born in Brussels in 1986, Shed Mojahid is a professional dancer and photographer. At the age of 13, he discovered Breakdance or B-boying, a style of street dance that originated among African American youth in the 1970s in Bronx, New York. In 2004, he joined the dance company, Hoochen Crew that has dominated the Belgian scene of Breakdance from 2004 to 2011, winning four times the Belgium championship « Battle of the Year » as well as other major international competitions. The Hoochens launched their international career which will lead them to Paris, Prague, Berlin, Bilbao, Amsterdam, Bratislava, London, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Los Angeles and Seoul. The Hoochens reached the climax of their career in 2007 when they were ranked sixth in the largest international Breakdance competition gathering the best crews throughout the world.
In 2005, whilst pursuing his successful career as a Breakdancer and dance instructor, Shed enrolled at INRACI, Brussels’ School of Photography and Cinema. He understandably began by photographing dancers, with a unique sense of timing succeeding to capturing the very moment where true emotions – force and grace – just flow. What makes Shed’s pictures unique is his ability to capture acrobatic moves of dancers as well as the space in which they perform.
In 2012, he won the contest “World’s Largest Picture Competition” organized by the French magazine “Photo”. He won Canon’s Picture Audience Award in the same year.
Shed Mojahid is Redbull’s official photographer during Breakdance events. He also collaborates with Canon and Hasselblad.
