About Me

Maverick Shaw Photography | Film

Maverick is the Austin based photographer whose portraits are characterized by a clever treatment of color and investigative style, giving rise to imagery of profound allure.

Following an early interest in music and theatre, he studied art at Texas State University. With a deep affinity for the classical forms and dramatic light-plotting, Maverick is a staple image-maker. Not only does Maverick have an in-depth knowledge of the history of photography and contemporary art but also considerable talent as a film-maker.

His editorials and sensitive portrayal of artists, actors, musicians and marginal groups have challenged and expanded on ideals of femininity, masculinity and beauty.

Designed to create marketing tools that will capture the attention from industry professionals and propel your career in a new direction. We’ll concentrate on your own personal expression and creativity throughout the entire process.

In order to achieve this, I like to shoot a minimum of 3 different looks during a session until I feel we’ve covered it. For headshots I like to shoot 4:3 aspect ratio with a horizontal format—I will capture between 25-75 shots during our 30 minute session and you’ll end up with somewhere between 25-50 final shots that you have approved as candidates for marketing yourself.

Once you’ve chosen the shots you’d like to retouch and/or print you can place an order directly through me. For quality control purposes I prefer all my work be handled personally and I don’t release ALL of the high resolution images directly to clients unless you elect to purchase a full buyout of your entire session for $300.00.

All shots and videos are taken with a Canon Mark iii, a 22.3 megapixel full frame digital camera. I’ve designed headshot lighting with a continuous setup with mixed strobes.

Please bring 3 to 5 different options—for headshots you’ll just need tops. You must feel comfortable and lovely in what we decide that you will wear. Bring a spectrum of colors, and a full range of seasons—textures and layers are fabulous, generally stay away from crazy patterns. T-shirts, tank tops to sweaters and light jackets. No jewelry unless you insist on wearing tiny studs.

*It is okay to purchase a bundle of new items—leaving the tags on—then returning them after the shoot.

Highly recommended; minimal application, starting off natural and dewy but finishing more dramatic.

If you are on a budget come readymade with your own hair and makeup, or bring your own artist.

My makeup artist that has been working with me is $150 for a full session.

It’s not required, but men can hire a makeup artist if you feel you need grooming on the shoot for $150. Also, for the guys who grow a decent scruff, or feel you can market yourself in that direction, you can come in with some growth and we’ll shoot until we feel we’ve gotten it covered and then you can shave—so bring your razor, etc.
