Stefan Merriweather is a self-taught photographer based in Southern California that specializes in Narrative, Fashion, Lifestyle, Portraiture and Street Photography. Stefan first fell in love with photography as a youth and used snapshot photography as a way to escape and discover new things on his own. He first started at the age of 13 armed with a Vivitar point and shoot combing neighborhoods snapping photographs of cars he found interesting and appealing. At that time his favorite vehicle to photograph was the 80's era pontiac fiero. As a result of it's compact size and ferrari inspired body. Stefan was able to capture the entire car nicely in his tiny viewfinder. He would comb neighborhoods in search of Fieros to photograph and developed his first film collection. This when Stefan first realized the significance and relevance of story telling with images. He discovered the value of having a story behind the still and realized he was doing more than just taking pictures. His obsession with a quirky vehicle turned into his understanding of how to engage viewers. This experience was the beginning of Stefan's obssessive interest in developing Narrative photography. His techniques involve interviewing and evaluating his subjects and putting them in environments that will evoke emotion and personality to be captured. His two most popular works "The Trap" 2013 and "This is War" 2013 were selected for the Southbay Contemporary Art Show in Southern California. You can find Merriweather's work throughout boutique galleries in Southern California. His distinctive way of displaying his work with archival prints on Bamboo paper bolted invisible set in 3 inch acrylic has helped his work become easily recognizable.
Merriweather's dedication to his craft has allowed him to transition from a starving fine art photographer to a full time versatile photo maker exploring commissions on everything from portraiture to fashion and even still life.
