About MeExploring the graphic potential of textiles by using layered patterns and rich colors, is my pleasure. Earthen themes provide for this. A good deal of my work features nature in some form. I believe that nature is beautiful and chaotic at the same time. This idea appeals to me because I like energetic images. It can be difficult working with these motifs but that's part of the fun. If a textile is not bold enough, I'll either alter it or create anew using paint and/or dyes.
It's not all flora and fauna. I also have an appreciation for structure and precision. I enjoy playing with balance and line. So it's not uncommon to see off-set stripes, staggered grids or edging lines juxtaposed with natural themes. I believe that the designs become dynamic when you mix different ideas in the same composition. It adds texture...and texture resonates. Each piece is like a puzzle as I work patterns, colors and lines into bold and sound composition. Fashion design provides me with the opportunity to make all of this puzzle building interactive, as my creations don't just hang on a wall...they hang on you!
When one is wearing a garment, one wants to feel good about it. Is the color nice? Does it feel good? How does it fit? I believe a well designed garment provides a positive answer to all these questions. But what about questions not asked. What inspired the design? What is it made of? How and with what, was it dyed? These questions should have positive answers as well. In my opinion, clothing should have good character as well as good construction.
