As you can tell, I'm a published author of three books with two more on the way and am featured as an entire chapter with my photography in the following books: Professional Portrait Lighting: Techniques and Images from Master Photographers and Professional Portrait Posing: Techniques and Images from Master Photographers by Michelle Perkins.

I also wrote the forward for Jack Watson's (featuring McFarland) book, BEYOND THE GLAMOUR PHOTOGRAPH: How to Get Started and Be Successful as a Boudoir, Glamour, and Swimsuit Photographer: With Companion DVD.  Find it here:

I’ve discovered a Playboy Playmate (Holley Dorrough, April 2006) and a Penthouse Pet (Jana Adams, Oct. 87') and I’ve spoken as a guest speaker at Photo Plus Exo in NYC, Photo Imaging Design Expo in San Diego, the Palm Beach Photographic Center, Samy's Camera Digital Institute in Los Angeles, FotoFusion in Florida, Julia Dean Photo School in Venice and other venues. I also did a three country tour in Europe for Calumet Photo and California Sunbounce.  European tearsheet below:

I’m currently working on my mainstream book, Photographic Therapy, that deals with the power of photography to help build or rebuild self-esteem. Here is an excerpt from that book and I’m currently looking for a literary agent to market this to one of the top publishing houses.

"She cries. Her body changed forever. Between foundation and hydrogenating skin creams, she gets teary-eyed. She looks down between her feet and sheds tears, not pounds. Her husband assures her--child-bearing, age and weight are just the by-products of a great-life, yet her self-esteem is the lowest its ever been. Her friends recommend photography as the cure-all, not the typical tummy-tuck, face peel, lipo, botox or faddish diet.

More clearly put, photographic therapy is the words she hears, her friends say it's not only therapeutic, but an experience like no other, a graceful dance, a romance, titillating without the sex, a process that can rekindle the romance with her spouse of many years. She's in, let's do it, she says.

First she locates a photographer with experience, not just any photographer, but one that understands glamour photography, one of the hottest genres of photography thanks to celebrities taking over the precious, magazine-covers, real-estate once reserved for super models. In her quest, it must be a glamour photographer who understands the history of this genre, back to the Hollywood roots where photographers like Ruth Harriet Louise from MGM Studios in the 1920's would glamorize celebrities. A glamour photographer who knows the outer-beauty of a woman is the skin to the more precious inner-beauty, her soul, her self-esteem, her love, her fantasies, her charisma, her sexiness, seductiveness, sultriness and sensuality--her good life." --an excerpt of Photographic Therapy--The Visual Drug for Self-Esteem, by best-selling author Rolando Gomez.

I’ve often contributed to Studio Photography magazines and others and I was the cover story feature for Rangerfinder Sept. 2006

About me: Born a Texan and a creative person with boots. By the age of nine I owned my first camera and took typing by the age of 13--thus the photographer and writer in me. I believe in fate, but more important I believe in people and goals, though I know life can side-track those goals and I believe in forgiveness too.

I earned my Bachelor's in Communication from the University of Texas, San Antonio in 2001, summa cum laude (GPA 4.0), at an age twice that of most people entering their first year of college--but that was my choice after turning down a scholarship in 1980 when I graduated from High School because of my passion for photography. I have five children, four of whom are girls, and of course my favorite son is the fifth child who will probably outgrow Dad by 8-inches, at least that's what the growth charts indicate.

I believe in loyalty and will not jeopardize my integrity for anyone. I believe in a marriage of the minds to create that perfect photographic smile--when the corners of the eyes are in perfect harmony with the corners of the lips. I believe the Internet is the Great Equalizer--I'm proof of that! I also believe we're not perfect, all humans make mistakes, I'm proof of that too! I believe you can't have love without passion, though you can have passion without love. I believe in sending her roses when she least expects it. I know the difference between affect and effect, but I don't know who invented liquid soap and why?. I vote, I play, I work hard, I am that I am.

If you're a person wanting Photographic Therapy or Private Photography Instruction, please message me or go to my personal website, www.rolandogomez.net for more information. You can also find my workshop and seminar information there. I've taught billionaires to millionaires, so while I like your money when it comes to payment, I'll always treat you with professionalism, but your money won't impress me unless you leave a helluva tip. (grin)

While I enjoy glamour, fashion, flamour, editorial, etc., my roots are photojournalism and when I'm not shooting the above, I'm an NBA credentialed photographer shooting sports.  As a photographer in general, I've worked in 39 countries and covered many world events.  I served over 8-years active-duty as a U.S. Army combat photographer and was awarded the Dept. of Defense Meritorious Service Medal for my actions while serving in the Latin America Drug War in the early 1990’s.  If you see a Veteran, thank them for their service to our country.  While I served over 8-years active-duty in the Army, they are going through hell right now, so thanks them when you see them anywhere.

Models: If you want to model for me, you must provide your contact information and best time to call.  You must be 18-years or older.  I have a no escort/ entourage policy. I can provide many references.  I will allow a companion to wait outside while I shoot!  You must be height/weight proportion and photogenic.  I get tons of emails and travel like heck, so you must be patient for a response.  I expect professionalism.  I do not do TFP/TFwhatever, what I can promise you is I’ll do my best to get you published if you have what it takes.  If I approach you, we trade our talents, you pose, I shoot, with a goal for publication. I never promise CD’s, prints, etc., but I will allow you to use the same images I use on the web for your web portfolios.  My belief is time for tearsheets, not prints.

If you approach me, my rate starts at $3,500 per day, plus expenses, for portfolio or private glamour shoots with a 50-percent, non-refundable deposit.  What you’re paying for is almost 30-years of experience.  Don’t confuse this rate with my commercial rate which starts considerably higher.

You must be dedicated and committed to this craft.  You must have the passion to succeed and love what you do.  If you work for me, either my workshops and/or publication, I expect loyalty from you along with integrity.  My A-list models have made over $6,000 in one month alone just with my workshops.  Want to stay as one of my workshop models and want to make that A-list, then be loyal, courteous, but more important, professional.  Don't become complacent.

Make-Up Artists: If you work for me, you work as a make-up artist, not a photographer.  You must have people skills and you must understand that it’s not “I” as there is no “I” in TEAM.  It’s always a team effort.  We work hard and have fun, but the minute you become complacent, you’ll be asked to move on.  I expect loyalty, integrity, and most important, be a professional, don’t act like one.  I like people that are proactive and interact with ideas.

http://modelmayhm-3.vo.llnwd.net/d1/photos/061215/11/4582cf63c8919.jpg

Team:   Everyone that works for me is part of the team, be it assistants, MUA’s, models, stylists, etc., we are a team.  If you can’t be a team player, don’t bother to contact me.  I’m passionate about my photography and I’m a stickler about loyalty.   If you use the words, “It’s not my job,” don’t bother contacting me. If you constantly look at your watch, don’t contact me. While photography is my love, my art and my passion, it also pays my bills (it's a business) so I expect professionalism.  Feel free to contact me if you are a professional.

Advice to Photographers   Treat every shoot as a cover shoot—you only need one shot!  Don’t spray and pray—we didn’t do it in the film days!  Practice the three “C’s” of being a great photographer, Comprehension (knoweledge of your equipment),  Communication (to your audience and subject) and Creativity (some are born with it.) Remember, technology changes every Monday when the Board of Directors meet, stay on top of it! If you want to ask me questions, please read my books first, then email me as I am approachable and love to spread the gospel of photography.

Final Note: Printed words sound harder than spoken words, especially without tone, so please understand, I’m a professional, but I’m also a people person, I love to talk, teach and interact. Thanks, rg sends!
