My name is Ryan, and I am 28 and have been shooting professionally or about two years now.
I began to follow a path as a free-lancer media professional when I graduated college. I figured my journalism degree would be tricky to use in the job market and felt I should take a jab at being a self-made man. This led me to rent a small studio space in Fort Collins and undertake a career as a wedding/portrait photographer. By using my video and audio experience I formed a small media business and began to make my dreams come true.
The funny thing about the direction I now aim to go is it is inspired by a relic of the past -- film. When I didn't have my hands tied with work related shooting or editing I found myself experimenting with 120mm film cameras I purchased on eBay. Wow did this open my eyes. Quickly I started shooting street photography and seeking unknowing strangers that were kind enough to let me take their picture. Most people seemed to get a kick out of an old camera and didn't object.
In no time I was constantly seek the most interesting subjects I could find. It was all a blast but presented a problem -- the real world didn't have enough subjects.
This is why I am now on Model Mayhem. I aim to shoot film and digital and am on the hunt for the right people. I have since closed my old studio and moved to Denver. I am willing to work for free for the right people. The pictures I have uploaded reflect my portrait experience, but I want to keep moving in the direction of fashion and lifestyle.
