Maria Santiago. A lover of learning and life, you’re just as likely to find me studying books on philosophy or physics, as baking or sewing a new piece of clothing. Whether it's designing, writing or traveling, I find inspiration all around me -- and I'm always on a quest to learn something new.
With a degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Carolina, I spent a year as a personal trainer before deciding to begin my education in Cosmetology. I graduated from the Aveda Institute and was licensed in 2005. During my years as a stylist, I’ve had the very fortunate opportunity of working with some really wonderful people. I've worked in two very successful Charlotte salons, where I grew from Apprentice to Master Stylist, before deciding to branch out on my own, in order to pursue my ever evolving goals in this industry. I became a freelance educator for AMIKA and opened my private studio, Knipt Salon, in 2012.
Knipt is my labor of love. Its success has allowed me the freedom and confidence to welcome a new chapter in my career with open arms. This past year has been an amazing year of growth for me, having the opportunity to travel throughout the U.S. -- as well as abroad, to include: London, Amsterdam, Ontario, Milan, Florence, Rome, and throughout New Zealand. Having a creative thirst for anything that pushes my personal or professional limits, I am highly dedicated to pursuing my own advanced education, and I travel often to classes and hair shows throughout the U.S. I stay inspired by learning from industry leaders, and sharing what I know with my students. Education is something I truly enjoy, and it will always be at the top of my priority list.
My goals are to become more involved in editorial work, fashion shows, and other aspects of design...and to connect with other professionals who need support in like-minded ventures. I'm ready to create and inspire!! Are you in??
