About Me

Thank you for checking out my profile! I am a relatively experienced photographer who has been collaborating with models since 2014. I am based in the San Francisco Bay Area (between SF and San Jose), but also occasionally travel outside the area. This isn’t a full time gig for me, but my portfolio should speak to the quality of work I strive for on every shoot. I am always looking for other creative individuals to collaborate with. Working together and taking an idea from concept to realization is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding feelings. Please feel free to reach out for scheduling a shoot, but realize that I have a busy schedule and may not be able to reserve time with less than 2 weeks notice - even if I REALLY want to do the shoot.

I believe in the following:
- Images are art and should have meaning
- Minimal retouching and NO body morphing in post
- Favor fluid, natural motion instead of long, strict poses
- Keep a low pressure environment
- Clear and transparent communication
- Giving as much control to the model as possible

While I am capable and happy to plan and execute an entire shoot, I strongly prefer creative collaboration. Being behind a lens and lighting already puts a significant amount of control in my hands as to how something will be portrayed - the bias I place on what the resulting image means is already heavy. We’re all people, so ensuring that everyone I work with feels they’re doing work that represents them and allows for a safe and comfortable work environment is my top priority.

There are exceptions to SOME of the above if creatively or artistically required. If you’re a beginner, I can help with more instruction. If work is being contracted for a designer or done with a creative team, less of this will be in my control - but that process would require much more transparency than the typical model-photographer shoot. If you want or expect me to enlarge or shrink body parts, I’m probably not the person to work with and would prefer my work not be depicted in that way.

Rights/Release/Money

I am flexible with respect to ownership and rights of images that have been collaborated on, but this must be discussed and agreed upon. Unless specified, standard ownership of rights will belong to the photographer and a model release will be supplied at the shoot or upon request. Due to my schedule, I am doing limited work where you get paid if I don’t, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. I flexible with TFP, where the terms of the trade are made clear up front (i.e. number of images, retouching, image rights, physical prints).

I respect that everyone is trying to make a living. I don’t want to spend time bartering on rates and I’m not going to talk someone’s worth down, so please come with what you feel you should be paid. Keep in mind, I use high grade Nikon bodies and lenses, Profoto lighting gear, and put significant time and resources into the process outside of the scheduled shoot (pulling permits, location scouting, studio rental, equipment upkeep, photo review/selection/editing/retouching). We can probably work something out painlessly, so please don’t be shy.

Seeking

I am always looking for models to collaborate with. I am especially looking for referrals to publications my work fits with, designers, and other creative professionals to collaborate with. I am hoping to find a retoucher I can trust that fits in with my creative goals.
