Born in Westchester, California, but was raised in the southern side of North Carolina, Curtis Brown graduated from the School of Communication Arts in Wake Forest with a degree in Digital Media.
An internship with Three Oaks Photography in Raleigh as an assistant photographer and designer soon landed him a full time position, and after a year, he branched out on his own, becoming a well-respected and sought after photographer in the Raleigh metro area; experience which catalyzed his recent move to New York, where he has quickly fostered a name for himself.
Believing that "photography is an art, a craft that [he] is blessed to be able to share" with the world, Brown enjoys amalgamating the visual and performing arts. His passion for the stage has led to a concentration on the theatrical aspects of photography - profiling actors, dancers, models and stylists. He is currently serving as the photographer for the North Carolina Theatre and the Hot Summer Nights season.
Brown's style - a fusion of traditional and modern elements - is most certainly his own. By taking each project as a personal challenge, Brown focuses intently on every facet, exploring innovative methods of capturing his subject. It is this drive that has gained the respect of artists such as Scott Alan, Shoshana Bean, and Lauren Kennedy.
Though cognizant of his talent, Brown realizes the dangers of complacency in such a versatile medium. He is, and always will be, striving for the fresh and the brand new. For as the water wash and pale red light reveal, his work is deep, chic, and a manifestation of emotion: Curtis Brown Photography.
