“We use the same mind, intelligence and imagination in our dreams as we do in reality; make your dreams reality” - Michael Angel
At twenty-six years of age, Michael Angel is a man of his words. Born and raised in the small city Yuma, AZ, Michael first picked up the camera during his junior year in high school. To say that it was love at first site might sound cheesy but is probably be the best way to describe the sensation he felt. Being completely self taught Michael quickly recognized his talent and made the decision to pursue a career within fashion photography.
He went on to attend Arizona Western College while traveling back and forth to Phoenix for photo shoots and networking with people in the industry. Michael soon came to the conclusion that his education wasn't leading him in the direction he wanted to go. In 2010 he therefore packed up all his belongings and moved to New York City.
Michael had three very successful years in NYC. His work was featured in Vouge Italia, Bronze Magazine, Fashion Face Magazine, OHLALA mag and several social blogs. Despite the success Michael found himself lost in a regular corporate job while slowly loosing the spirit for photography. A change of scenery was needed for him to find inspiration again and be able to advance with his career. In January 2013, Michael once again filled his suitcases to head west.
No time was wasted. Michael went on a 13 city tour along the west coast with model and celebrity fashion stylist Jordan Anthony Swain to do photo shoots, hold seminars and network. Back in LA the creativity never stopped. The duo's next project was launching the online fashion magazine Jacamo where Michael currently works as Managing Editor while also running his own business, Michael Angel Photography.
Michael's versatile and expressive style along with his innovative mind makes him a photographer that is hard to ignore. To Michael, every single person is unique. It is from the beauty in diversity and ethnicity he gets inspired and his goal is always to capture the memories created in each moment. Every time Michael's index finger, with the word “SMILE” tattooed, presses the shutter art is created and his energy is translated through the lens inspiring everyone around him.
