At 166 lbs, I don’t have the body of a typical runway model. I eat more carbs than necessary and I detest the gym. At no point in my life have I ever been called ‘dainty,’ or ‘waifish.’ My curves used to bother me, and, if I’m being honest, sometimes they still do. But despite my insecurities, the stretch marks on my hips remind me how much I’ve grown, and the thighs that jiggle when I walk take me where I need to go. I have the option to hate my appearance, to cower and compare myself to other, thinner, women. Instead, I choose to embrace my body. I choose to celebrate all the wonderful things it allows me to do. When I’m in front of the camera, insecurity isn’t an option. I must unconditionally embrace who I am. Modeling empowers me to not just accept who I am, but put it on display as something I’m proud of. I hope that my work encourages you to share your history, embrace your imperfections, and live your life with openness and self-love.
