Michael Laing

Hi, welcome to my little area of Model Mayhem. 

I am also a trained cameraman and videographer (same thing) and occasional director with experience working in television, shooting types various program, from documentaries, to fitness videos but my true love is photography.

I have been doing photography for a number of years.  I have some good days and some bad, mostly good now days.  I can't say that I know it all but I know a little, which is a good start.

I am pretty passionate about my photography but exceedingly honest.  I know there are a lot of things that I can do better.  Pretty much main thing for last couple of years has been working on my lighting techniques and although they are not perfect, I have improved a lot both with studio and strobe lighting.  If there was a big thing I think I need to work on is making my photos more interesting.  Creating more of a story and making my backgrounds more exciting. 

I can't say that I have a certain style.  I have lots of ideas, much of the time the scale is beyond my ability or what I see.  I am getting closer though, one day I hope to get that perfect image.

I am pretty negative about myself my work, you the reader should take as me, believing that I could achieve more with the image.  It doesn't mean that I think the image is bad but I do know I could have created something better.  I am pretty much the opposite on shoots, thinking I have done something great, but then later realising something has been lost or is out of place.

I haven't done as much work as I would like over the last year, do to a number of reason, but I do hope to be doing more over the coming year.  I have worked with a number of models on this site and they will hopefully all say nice things about me.  I do occasional TFP, generally I will give most images from the set.  I don't pay for models, I have enough experience to have people to ask to work for me and if I did want to work with a pay model, I will contact them, directly. 

People I am really interested in working with are make up and hair artists.  I think that this can make a huge difference to certain kind of photos.

I have a lot of experience working with circus/street/burlesque performers and a very good reputation with places like Spinning @ in London.  I have done promotional photos for bands and singers.
