Due to the tremendous amount of work, I am currently doing limited TFP and TFCD to help models building their portfolios.
You can only get so much out of doing TFP with photographers, MUA, etc. You get what you pay for, that means you will not get the best images from TFP to compete with other models trying to get into an agency with portfolio images that they have invested money in. I have yet to hear that a model used his/her TFP images to land a job or get into a professional agency. To get the best professional images for your portfolio, you should pay for a photography service based on the value, not price.
To get into an agency, your images would have to look like actual work such as fashion, advertising and editorials, like the ones that you see in magazines.
You do not have to have the Barbie doll figure to be a model. It is the look, personality, and attitude that make a model. Anyone can take a picture, but it takes an artist to capture a fantastic image. A great photographer is one who can bring out a model's emotion and confidence through her expression and pose, then capture that image on camera.
Remember: Anyone can paint a smiling face on canvas, but Leonardo da Vinci painted the emotional feeling and expression of Mona Lisa on canvas.
"Why do I need professional quality pictures?"
All aspects of model scouting, promoting and booking require photographs. Modelling industry is very competitive, and is used to working with high standards of photography. Professional quality photographs can help aspiring and professional models who want to improve their chances of getting noticed.
"Can I use my regular portrait photographs in my portfolio?"
Traditional portrait photographs are to be displayed in your home or given to friends and relatives. Those portrait photographs may not represent you in the best lighting conditions. Those are most likely not the type of photos that will get you noticed or help you in the field of modeling.
