I'm a female photographer located in Santa Cruz and the Monterey Bay area, in pursuit of mystery and beauty though not necessarily the pretty.
In one sense I am your basic retro glamour, portrait, fine art, street photographer, whatever those categories really mean. In the other sense, my work is comprised of rather eclectic components that come together to explore what I call emotional and spiritual narrative.
Dreams are very real to me and I see them even awake. My work is an attempt to capture my dreamtime. I am inspired by classic imagery of Weston and Cunningham, abstract work of Paul Strand, the glamour of Jeanloup Sieff, the fashion work of Dominique Issermann, and the street photography of Henri Cartier Bresson and Bunny Yeager who made it easier or female photographers to shoot pin-up. Mix in with that my hippie (which explains my trippy dreamy color work) and goth and gothic (yeah both) aesthetic and my additional interests that range into fetish, retro and burlesque and that probably explains my work that is somewhat dark and/or mysterious rather than high-key and overt.
The work in this portfolio is approximately 75% shot on old school film. The strange color you see often starts off with a combination of color gels, cross processing, various films used the "wrong way." Some of the color work is actually handcolored BW prints. I work a lot with infrared black and white and high speed BW film as well as alternative processes.
Models, I am most interested in working with you as subject and not an object, even in conceptual work. This means that even though you might take on a role or a character I always value you bringing your essence into your work so that there is always a sense or kernel of intimacy, a fleeting moment and persona in our work together.
I am interested in working with new people, the projects we might word on depend on how we mesh and how much you can open yourself to working in the realm of dreams and emotions versus mere poses and caricatures.
**If you voted for Prop 8 I will NOT work with you. I refuse to work with haters! Don't even ask.**
The TFP projects I'm looking for models for:
My take on classic Hollywood Glamour: Think George Hurrell but my interepretation, think Hurrell on acid.
Retro/Pinup: both classic and modern takes on the genre
Dreamworlds: Artistic work that is conceptual in nature. Look at my portfolio and you get an idea of the look and feel that I am working in/from.
