About me
I am a photographer using the 19th century wet plate process. I produce tintypes, ambrotypes and glass negatives. I have been pouring collodion plates for 12 years. In 2005 one of my Civil War Reenactor portraits appeared on the cover of National Geographic Magazine. I’ve done commercial work for various companies including Jack Daniels and my work has appeared in several historical documentaries. I shoot mainly portraits and my fine art work hangs in many private collections.

The wet plate process is very difficult to master but as you can see by my work I have a good handle on the process. I currently live in Southwest Virginia but travel often to Kansas City, MO where I have a wonderfully lit studio to work out of in the Crossroads District. I am on the road a lot shooting on location.

If you think what I do would be beneficial to your portfolio please contact me.

Most of my work is with the 19th century wet plate collodion  process, however, I also shoot digital using Canon equipment.

I normally don't comment on other photographer's pages, but I LOVE what you're doing with wet plates. Amazing work and something I've wanted to try my hand at for years. In this digital age it makes me dream of film days long gone...

Hello Mr. Szabo...thank you for the tag and for taking a listen to the Band. We love our music, that's for sure. We are not on the road *yet*, but hope to be at some point. Best - 13th soul

In this age of warp speed, it's nice to see someone taking their time with what is considered by so many to be a lost art form.

You have an incredible eye and your dedication is astounding.

National Geographic has always been a dream of mine - so cool to see someone on MM who has made that come true. Congrats!

Cheers!

I am not able to keep my eyes off this portfolio. Your pictures image historical pieces and, in my opinion, history is made by simple and unknown lives. Your "anonymous" models symbolize the real icon of the real history.

Hey, Rob! Hope all is well in VA. I was supposed to head down there for that Vicksburg NPS film that Kevin H. is working on. I had stuff to take care of, back home, so I stayed.

Your pics with Nicole are awesome. She is quite the muse!

I really want to get a wet plate done with you, soon!
