About Me

Thank you for visiting my little bit of digital real estate here on Model Mayhem. I have been interested in photography for most of my life and have been working as a part time professional for the last ten years or so.

Starting out working in landscapes and stock photography helped me build a solid working knowledge base. However over the last few years I have abandoned that type of work and transitioned into model, fine-art, editorial, commercial and advertising photography.

I specialize in on-location photography and mostly work outdoors with natural lighting. Recently I have started to include studio work to my portfolio. I enjoy working with female and male models equally, as they both have great individual strengths to bring to a shoot.

Most work will be done with digital due to the ease of providing proofs. I will shoot film in 35mm or Medium format only if it lends a special advantage to the project. All shoots will be as professional as possible while still trying to maintain a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Since photography is my passion and not my job that pays the rent, I am sometimes available to work TFP if I am interested in the project.

Thanks,
          Craig

Modeling and Photography forums are full of debate on the next four topics.  This is how I stand on these issues...

My position on the "Photographers don't pay Models" issue.

1)  If you come to me and would like me to help build your portfolio, I will not pay you.
2)  If we have come to an agreement to partner in building both of our portfolios. I will be more than happy to cover the expenses for a project, and may include compensation for your travel.
3)  If I am working on my portfolio, I will be more than happy to pay you a reasonable wage or cover your travel expenses.

My position on the "Photographers do not give copies of all the images" issue.

1) I do not provide "all copies" of images from a shoot to the model.

2) I would never display or distribute a picture of someone that they did not find flattering/acceptable and as such I would never release an image which I created that was not flattering. Most, if not all of these unacceptable images are deleted during the initial screening process.

3) My job as the photographer is to make the shot happen and make all aspects of the image as perfect as possible. I will spend the time on the shoot to make sure models know what they are doing right or wrong and how it affects the image. This would include viewing the images at different periods during the shoot.

My position on the "Photographers do not give RAW images" issue.

Photography is my art and as such I retain full copyrights to those images that I create. I give my models full resolution .jpg images of the best from each shoot and they are welcome to print them and use them in any self promoting way as long as photographer credit is provided.  As to "Camera RAW" images, They are my digital negatives and are impractical for most models. The bottom line is that I do not give them out regardless of the situation.

My position on the "Who Owns the Images" issue.

1)  If I am being paid to shoot a project. The owner of the images is still me and I will license the images according to the needs of the customer and commensurable to the compensation provided for licensing according to current industry rates.

2)  If no money changes hands, I still retain full ownership of and rights to the images, but provide full self promotion and printing rights to the model.

3)  If I am paying the model in any way, I again retain full ownership of and rights to the images, but provide full self promotion and printing rights to the model.
