ABOUT ME:
Photographer in the NJ/NYC area. I'm in and out of Manhattan almost everyday. My preference is to shoot on location and not get locked up in a studio. The white high key studio backdrops sort of bores me.
Some of my work has been published in travel, lifestyle magazines, books, and calendars.
I also test with a couple of NYC modeling agencies.
I'm on the photographer list of NYC commercial agencies for paid portfolio work.
Lifestyle Portfolio: (new) (just let the slideshow play)

If you want to work together, please make sure you provide an email addr when contacting me. MM Mail is a pain to sort through.

I keep getting asked this question so here's my answer:
Expression, personality and a good sense of humor.

I'm building an artist & talent
contact list for the studio. This includes models, makeup artists, hair stylists, wardrobe stylists, videographers, and even specialty photographers. If you'll like to be included, please drop me an email with your info including email, phone number, MM# and/or website portfolio, and specialty (model, mua, event photographer, and etc). Since this is a commercial studio, we get requests from clients for all sorts of stuff. I need to refer reliable people.

Something Funny.....
A good friend/photographer came out and helped out my studio shoot for the Fashion Pilot Shoot. It was raining and he couldn't play tennis, LOL. Below is his comments on my shoot. Its meant to be funny
Why I'll never be a MM Legend....
Your shoots will never come close to his. Here's some things you need to work on....
- there was too much light for the hair stylist and makeup artist. The place needs to be darker so they really can't see what they're doing and when you do shoot they will wonder why it looks nothing like they intended.
- You need to find a much smaller space. And a space where you constantly have to unplug things (lights, dryers, etc.) so you don't blow a fuse.
- Pretend you have a game plan but really don't.
- Borrow some photos from other people's shoots and put them in your book. Maybe get the latest issue of Vogue and cut some pics out and put them in your portfolio,
- Don't let anybody eat. Models don't eat anyway.
That's just the beginning. Maybe you can one day assist MM legend and see how it's really done.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MM doesn't have too much info about photogs- You don't know if you're working w/ a 15 year old or a 99 year old. I enjoy the smile and relief look everytime a model meets me for the first time. We know everything about the model. To be fair:
-Age: 25 to 35 age bracket. I'm asian and we age well.

I get carded whenever I go out to AC or Vegas.
-Formal training, yes
-Locations: NYC & NJ and sometimes PA
-Weapon of Choice: Canon
-Lens of Choice: L
-Lights: Plenty. Never used all of them in one setup. Should probably sell some.
-I love fashionable stuff, love lifestyle stuff, love pretty stuff
-Street Photography is fun. I call it a photo safari.
-I hate boxy nyc studios.
-I hate seamless. I would rather shoot you doing something real.
-Technicals: I believe every frame should be 100% technically perfect. No out of focus shots and no oops.. This way, everything shifts to the subject and environment at hand. My analogy is a soldier and a rifle. Would he say oops?
-My shoots: From a model's perspective, I think my shoots are so easy even a caveman can do it (or is that a cavemodel). I'm easy to work with. I don't ask a model to wear tank tops and shorts in freezing weather. Perhaps its just me not wanting to photoshop the goosebumps.
-Photoshop: Yeah I can photoshop. I can't do surgery. Most of my photos have minimal photoshop work if any. Just ask the models I've worked with. The camera LCD looks like the proof which looks like the final photo. You'll be amazed how much time you can save if you get the shot right. An awesome MUA and flawless model helps too.
-After a trade shoot, I allow the team to proof online. This means photos.
-Motivation: Creating beautiful images and submissions. Why shoot something if I can't submit it? The image isn't doing any good stuck in a portfolio.
-Some profiles have quotes on their page so here's mine-
"Work smarter, not harder" ~Scrooge McDuck.
Testing & Trade Status- Below is why my time is very limited and valuable. Now I got 2!

Artists / Photographers / Stylists / Designers / Models Wanted to Create some Amazing Studio Images
We're updating and building a showcase of artist images for the Studio's website
http://113designco.com . This is TFP but for a studio. I'm looking for a few good artists to shoot in the studio for half day. This time besides just looking for photographers, we're casting for everyone that can put together a team and create amazing images including photographers, stylists, designers, and models. For example, if a designer has a really cool idea and wants a location to shoot at. If you need more time we're flexible also, we just have to work out times. You'll get credit for the images and the images must be "work safe" since clients will see this. This means FREE studio time at a large commercial studio. You'll have access to most parts of the studio. We really want to showcase the studio besides the cyc wall so no cyc wall pixs unless its something amazing. (Plus repainting it is a pain unless you want to help paint/clean it) There are some really cool locations in the studio. NO weekday rooftop access, only weekends. There might be more than one photographer at the same time so you'll have to learn to share. We will let you know in advance if there are for your planning. Nobody had to share last time. If you want to team up, thats fine also. So put together a team and create wonderful images at the studio.
Please provide:
Name
Email/Contact
MM#
Portfolio or MM link
3 or 4 Possible dates Avail
Rules:
1. Access to the studio (This includes H&M Area and changing area)
2. Images cannot by NSFW (Not Safe For Work). We're a commercial studio and clients will see this.
3. Images displayed on studio's website will have Artist credits
4. Images displayed on photographers web portfolios please credit the studio with the studio website whenever possible (esp MM)
5. Materials Release from Photographer so we can put up the image. Photographer owns the copyright.
6. Bring your own equipment
7. Respect the property so this means cleanup
8. There will be some areas off limits.
9. Responsible for own food. There are local restraunts that deliver (ie. pizza).
10. Like all castings we will be reviewing portfolios and ONLY responding if approriate for this project.
11. Return images withing 2-3 weeks. This is important since we had difficulties getting photos back last time.
Studio Info:
The studio is across the river in Jersey City by the Journal Square Path station, a few mins from the Holland Tunnel. Its 22 min ride from the 33rd st path station (manhattan mall) and 11 min ride from WTC station. The fare is $1.75 (you can use your metrocard). 7 min walk from Journal Square. Its like going from Manhattan to Brooklyn, except quicker.
Below are some castings that will be posted shortly. (trade work)
