Photography has been a big part of my Anthropology research in Indonesia and Australia, and I now use it to assist agency-represented models/actors who need to diversify their portfolios. Post-processing (or re-touching) has also become an important element in my most recent portraits.
I normally shoot in public space, preferably near water. Backgrounds usually consist of water, sand, and limestone cliff faces or bluffs. A few of my shoots have been in tree-lined residential areas. I shoot almost exclusively in natural light conditions, with reflectors when needed.
If ambient lighting conditions are not what they need to be (too overcast, dark sky, strong backlighting, not enough illumination for good results), I resort to a small strobe set-up with an umbrella reflector.
Bring as many changes or wardrobe as you think you can handle changing into. Just think of the variety of looks you or your agency would like to see in your portfolio. Be prepared to include at least one white top. If you would like a surfboard to use during the shoot, I can arrange to get you one. You don't actually have to SURF on it.
I prefer late afternoon sunlight, so skin tones take on orange and gold hues in the color shots.
If you are interested in a casual TFCD appointment (a 2- to 3-hour session) before the time changes at the end of October, please let me know! I will give you the images saved onto CDs after editing them for you. You may also request all of the original files (unedited) for your own archives if you wish. Otherwise, ask about my reasonable rates which will return again in November 2009.
